How to Make a Football Team Throw Blanket

Step 1

Pick out the material and matching binding. Fleece is the most popular material for these blankets, but use any material you like. Decide what size you would like it to be. This depends on the size of person you want to cover or if it's for one or two people. The color of your fabric should be one of your team colors and you can decorate it in the other color. Many fabric stores have material with football designs on them and they might even have your team. The blanket's binding can be the same color or the other color of your team. Have the material cut to the size you want.

Step 2

Sew on the binding by placing it over the outside edge of the material, leaving it hanging over about an inch. You may want to pin it on so you get a nice straight tight stitch. Fold the corners and stitch right over the fold to hold it in place. When you get to the end, fold over the piece you left at the beginning and sew right through it. Lock stitch to be sure it does not come undone.

Step 3

Take on old team sweatshirt or T-shirt and lay it down flat. Put a piece of white paper over the logo and trace it onto the paper. You can either cut out the logo or cut around it to make a stencil. You can do as many different pictures as you would like on your blanket.

Step 4

Start by painting on the team name with the letter stencils. This goes best on the top or the bottom or the blanket. Let that dry until you can touch the fabric painted areas without smudging it. Then spray on a light spritz of fabric glue to your homemade stencil and stick it down where you want it on the blanket. If you are doing a helmet image, you can paint with the main color and when that dries, paint on the logo. You can make a separate stencil for the logo if you are not very artistic.

Step 5

Use a brown spray paint for a football and then let it dry. Paint on the laces or your team's logo. If you want just the outline of the logo or football, use a stencil and just paint a border around the outside of it. Then you can put your favorite team member's number inside. Let it dry and you have a new team blanket.
